Volcanoes is a very important topic for any competitive exam. Questions are asked from this topic in SSC Exams. Here we are providing few important volcanoes and their location. They are going to be really helpful for your upcoming CGL exam.

The volcanos are divided into 3 parts:-
(i) Active volcanoes → The active volcanos are those volcanos which erupt very frequently (once in every 10,000 Yrs).
  • Mount Etna, 
  • Mount Vesuvius, [Both Italy], 
  • Mount Mauna Loa [Hawaii], 
  • Mount Helens [U.S.A], 
  • Mount Tongariro [Newzealand], 
  • Mount Cotopaxi [Ecuador South.America]

(ii) Dormant volcanoes → The volcanoes which have not erupted for a long time but there are chances of future eruptions.
  • Mount Krakatoa [Indonesia]. Indonesia is the biggest Archipelago (the largest group of islands) in the world. Indonesia is the largest Islamic country of the world.
  • Mount Popa → (Myanmar)
  • Barren volcano (Barren Island) → (India, Andaman). The only confirmed active volcano in South Asia. and the only active volcano along a chain of volcanoes from Sumatra to Myanmar.
  • Mount Stromboli → the Tyrrhenian Sea [Light house of Mediterranean] 
(iii) Extinct Volcanoes → The volcano & which has not erupted for a long time & there are also no chances of future eruptions.
  • Mount Fuji → Japan
  • Mount Kilimanjaro → Africa
  • Mount Aconcagua → Argentina [Highest Extinct volcano on the world → 6900 ms.]
Note : – More than 90% of the world’s volcano lies in the Circum-Pacific Belt near the convergent or divergent plate boundaries. Also, known as Pacific Ring of fire.
